(edited as of July 31st) I took my vehicle to Toyexus for a check up and the recommendation was a water pump replacement and a major service. The major service for my vehicle has seemed to have gone well, but the water pump installation was a “complete failure of installation” as per the Lexus dealership that took a second look for me. Supposedly, silicone used to seal the water pump had melted and created space for the coolant to leak out. I had a couple of calls with the manager, Paul, who was straight forward and respectful about the situation. After chatting, we deemed that a partial refund for the water pump replacement was the best resolution for me. It adequately concludes our business. All and all, I stand by my decision to pursue another mechanic, but at the very least, Paul tries to make things as right as he can with his customers.

After months of driving with the power steering light on and the steering wheel becoming increasingly difficult to manage, I brought my Lexus to several shops—each offering different diagnoses but no real solution. Toyexus was the shop that was able to diagnose the root of the problem and resolve it efficiently restoring my car’s drivability. Beyond their technical expertise, I was impressed by the welcoming and professional environment. The staff was friendly, honest, and genuinely focused on helping rather than upselling. It’s refreshing to find an auto shop that prioritizes transparency and customer satisfaction. I highly recommend Toyexus for anyone looking for reliable and trustworthy service.

TL;DR: Avoid Toyexus for anything beyond basic repairs like brakes. They misdiagnosed my engine issue, charged me $95 for a “diagnosis,” and tried to upsell me on an unnecessary $12,000 used engine or a $22,000 remanufactured one. I have waited 5 months to verify they were 100% wrong before posting this review and have driven my car close to 8000 miles since then. — When it comes to mechanics, I’ve learned it’s always a good idea to get a second opinion-no matter how reputable the shop might seem. I’d recommend this for any mechanic, even the one that ultimately solved my issue. That said, my recent experience with Toyexus has taught me just how critical that second opinion can be. After a long drive home to Denver, I noticed a knocking sound from my engine after pulling off I-25. Concerned, I towed my car to Toyexus, a shop I had previously trusted and even recommended to several friends. What I experienced this time was nothing short of appalling. After leaving my car with them for the weekend, I received a call Monday with the dreaded diagnosis: “It needs a new engine.” They quoted me $12,000 for a used engine with mileage similar to my current one or an eye-watering $22,000 for a remanufactured engine. And to add insult to injury, they charged me $95 for their “diagnosis.” When I asked how they arrived at such a drastic conclusion, their explanation was vague and unconvincing. The only additional diagnostic step they offered was pulling the oil pan and front differential to inspect the bearings, for an extra $900. This is an invasive and costly procedure that should be a last resort, not an initial suggestion. As someone who works on my own cars but isn’t a professional mechanic, I knew to question this extreme diagnosis. I specifically asked if they had considered external components like the flex plate or engine accessories. Instead of conducting thorough testing or even reattaching the drive belt (which I later learned they had removed), they jumped straight to the most catastrophic, lucrative conclusion. Frustrated and unconvinced, I took my car to ToyCarCare, another shop I trust, for a second opinion. While they initially said they wouldn’t be able to inspect the car for a week, they reattached the drive belt that Toyexus had removed—and guess what? The knocking sound disappeared. ToyCarCare also didn’t charge me 95$ to put it back on. This experience has been infuriating. Not only did Toyexus completely misdiagnose the problem, but they also caused unnecessary stress and wasted my time. I spent the weekend scrambling to figure out how I could afford an engine replacement I didn’t even need. Adding to the frustration, I even apologized to the front desk staff for being a “difficult” customer who questioned their diagnosis and integrity. After everything I’ve learned, I take back that apology completely. While I understand that not all shops are equipped to handle bigger jobs like engine rebuilds or intricate drivetrain work, Toyexus presented themselves as capable of handling anything. If diagnosing complex issues like this one is beyond their staff’s expertise, it’s their responsibility to communicate those limitations clearly to their customers. Instead of admitting they might not have the tools or knowledge to properly investigate the issue, they made a weak attempt at diagnosing it and then upsold me on unnecessary and outrageously expensive repairs. In this case, Toyexus failed on every level. They didn’t properly diagnose the problem, misled me with vague explanations, and seemed more interested in upselling me on an engine replacement than actually solving the issue. General maintenance shops should attempt a reasonable diagnosis within their scope, but if the problem exceeds their capabilities, they should let the customer know and recommend alternative solutions. Toyexus did none of that. If you’re considering Toyexus, stick to basic jobs like brakes. Anything more complex, and you risk being misled, upsold, or outright ripped off. I certainly won’t be recommending them to anyone again.

I wanted to give this shop a fair chance, especially because they’re local and seemed reputable. My experience started with a brake issue. I was told I needed a new brake pump, which cost me around $2,500. Unfortunately, the brakes still weren’t working properly afterward. When I brought the car back, it turned out the issue was actually due to faulty brake pads that had been installed. This made me question whether the brake pump replacement was necessary in the first place. I continued returning for oil changes, which were done well, but at the end of each visit I was quoted for additional repairs totaling over $3,000. Like many people, I rely heavily on my car for daily transportation, so these estimates naturally caused concern. Wanting to advocate for myself and make an informed decision, I did some research and took my car to two other reputable shops for second and third opinions. Both shops offered repair options that were under $1,000 and also noted that the extensive services I was quoted for weren’t urgently needed or needed at all. I’m disappointed to feel that I may have been overcharged, not just once but repeatedly. I value supporting small businesses, but trust is essential, and unfortunately, my trust was compromised.
